Venezuela Greets Cuba on the Occasion of the Anniversary of Fidel Castro’s Birth

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America also paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
On Tuesday, through a message posted by Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil, the Venezuelan government sent greetings to the Cuban people on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth.

“From Venezuela, we join in the sentiment of the Cuban people, of their President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and of Army General Raul Castro Ruz, confident that the Socialist Revolution, initiated by the immortal Commander Fidel, will continue to be a beacon of dignity for all those who aspire to build a better, just, and interference-free world, where respect for the most sacred values for human beings is the foundation for building a society that benefits all its citizens,” said the Venezuelan diplomat.
“By celebrating this 98th anniversary, the homeland of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chávez Frías reaffirms its commitment to the values of loyalty, bravery, and wisdom of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, which have been embraced by the Bolivarian Revolution and are fundamental elements in advancing the socialist project and consolidating national sovereignty,” he added.
On Tuesday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) also paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution. This Latin American integration bloc recalled that Fidel Castro and the Cuban revolutionaries opened “a path of resistance, sovereignty, and solidarity for the peoples.”
For this reason, the ALBA-TCP nations “recall with deep admiration the luminous life of a man who proved to be an example of courage and strength.”
The Bolivarian Alliance also remembered that Fidel made Cuba “a reference for the peoples in their processes of struggle and liberation from capitalist oppression and the expansionist and devouring ambitions of imperialism.”
“The Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution managed to impact all of humanity with his work and thought. He placed the human being and their social rights as the exclusive priority, above the interests of the ruling elites and corporations. He prioritized life over war and solidarity over the petty ambitions of the powerful.”
Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926, in Brian, in the province of Holguín. He was the third of seven children born to Ángel Castro, a wealthy Spanish sugar plantation owner, and Lina Ruz González, a Cuban of Spanish descent.
After studying law, Fidel Castro gained notoriety for his fight against the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. In 1953, he was imprisoned as a result of the assault on the Moncada barracks, a military action that gave rise to the guerrilla movement that would lead to the victory of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
